Headache is a condition when pain and discomfort occurs in the head, scalp, or neck.
This disease is common, and it is estimated that 7 in 10 people experience at least one headache every year.
Most headaches are not severe and can be treated on their own by taking painkillers, drinking enough water, and getting plenty of rest.
However, some headaches require more treatment because of conditions that can be life-threatening.

Based on the cause, headaches can be grouped into two types, namely headaches that are not related to other diseases or primary headaches, and headaches due to other diseases or secondary headaches.

A primary headache is a headache that has no other cause behind it, but is purely caused by a problem with structures in the head that are too sensitive to pain.
The condition also involves the blood vessels, muscles, nerves of the head, and neck. Some examples of common primary headaches include:
- Tension headaches.
- Cluster headaches.
Several factors influence the occurrence of primary headaches, including:
- Disorders of the muscles of the neck and head.
- Chemical activity in the brain.
- Blood vessels or nerves.

Secondary headaches are usually caused by the activation of the pain nerves in the head due to an illness.
Common causes of secondary headaches include:
- Ear infection.
- Dental problems.
- Excessive consumption of MSG.

- Hormonal changes in women after taking birth control pills.
- Using a headgear that is too tight.
